Dripping Springs is heritage live oak country, and some of the trees out here predate everything around them by a century or more. They deserve careful, conservative work: no topping, no over-thinning, and no pruning outside the safe oak wilt windows. We sterilize between cuts on oaks and paint fresh wounds as standard practice, because oak wilt has hit this part of Hays County hard and the fungus does not need any help spreading.

The other half of the work here is juniper. On unmanaged acreage, Ashe juniper takes over quickly, outcompetes the oaks for scarce water and builds up fuel. Selective clearing — pulling the juniper back and keeping the hardwoods and the best specimen cedars — makes a genuine difference to both the health of the remaining trees and the fire risk around a house.

Ranch fencing runs long out here and often crosses rock. We set posts to hold in that ground and follow the grade so the finished run looks right along its whole length.
